Learning English Online:
Team up with New Zealand, Singapore and Australia!
Learn English or Learn To Teach English - Socially with Purpose.

Welcome to the Koru Training Centre! I'm Jo - the NZ director, with Brian, the partnering director, based in Singapore. Alongside, is an ever growing team teaching English - in 'hand up' mode.
The Koru Training Centre has been designed and developed as a partnership between New Zealand and Singapore - with staff and students joining on an almost weekly basis now.
Enjoy now, our story and our love for all we do here. Tune in opportunities available in the midst where new friendships ignite and where our style becomes just gorgeous in nature.

Our Style
We've got an outside-the-box approach to KTC (the Koru Training Centre). So, as an insight to our stakeholders and new teachers to be, here's a run down for you in particular. We mix it up here at KTC. The hype evolving is stunning...
We offer a personalised service that begins with WHY students want or need to learn English.
We don't start out with a range of courses to choose from. The reasons for learning English are now so varied and the nature of what must be learnt is more urgent and more specific than ever. So, we're fitting in with the times instead.
Trends
I was living in S.E.Asia in the mid 1990's, when teaching English was 'very old school' compared to how it's trending today. You learnt the colours on their own, lists of nouns, and did barely any speaking. Within the next 10 years, it moved into learning within a topic. It was all largely do-as-you-are-told in style.
Fast forward to even just 3-4 years ago, including now, the formalities are still evident - somewhat awkwardly so. The personalisation is barely seen. That's not okay. The formalities are indicative of why it's taking folk so long to learn English...

Fitting In
Learning English for some - as noted earlier, is more urgent and more specific than ever.
Fitting in with the needs refugees have, the needs work permits have and needs export markets have is what we've chosen to fit into.
There are many, many providers teaching English for those with the luxury of time and desire. Thank goodness such services are on offer also.
For us, there are refugees who speak a little English, who are called on to teach it - and we have the means to help their journey. But there's more...

Integration
With the movement of migrants and refugees on the increase, so too are the complexities around integrating into new countries. For many, they move into English speaking countries where work places and schools haven't the capacity to support those needing to learn English. Partnering with us, help equip the journey they've got ahead.
Within our team, we've had 10 years experience supporting the integration of refugees into new communities - not just with the language, but by coordinating buddy supports - right down to even matching Native English Speaking penpal kids with kids needing to learn English. Even Mum to Mum is possible etc.

Versatility
Our team's got a wealth of teaching experience across all ages, have an abundance of skill sets and are of varying nationalities and timezones...
We have scope to work with anyone keen to learn English - be it after work when the kids are asleep, or during work hours, as professional support and development on the job.
We receive donations which support some of what we do - in part, while fees offset some of the other costs. We team teach to provide variety for students and enable social interaction to the max! So, all good fun - with hearts of gold all round!

We operate a 'Contract for Services' approach - we cover hours you do with rates based on experience and ability to be part of a programme design for students. You'll need to manage your own internet and it's critical you have a laptop.
We're an easy team to work with and will team-teach with you to share the fun! Keen? Email: jo.gibson@freshaz.co.nz
